JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY

The Category Manager is responsible for developing and executing Sourcing Strategy for their assigned categories.  Primary responsibility will be to execute logistics direction, strategy, and relationships to secure delivery excellence to customers and inbound to manufacturing sites.  Ensures transportation and logistics vendors are positioned to support Viega LLC’s ongoing business in a relationship, which represents a competitive advantage to Viega LLC through a superior value proposition.  Interfaces externally with carriers, regulatory agencies, legal outside council, and internally with warehouse, distribution services, sales, operations, procurement, accounting, and facilities to coordinate services.  Also responsible for other Indirect Procurement spend areas supporting other internal stakeholders.

JOB DESCRIPTION DETAILS

  • Execute and continuously improve strategic logistics plans and negotiates carrier contract pricing, fuel service charges on behalf of the company which include all international and domestic transportation and shipping.
  • Manage and continuously improve all surface and air shipping requirements.
  • Recommend alternate strategies to improve transportation and shipping operational costs for outbound and inbound freight within North America, Europe, and Asia.
  • Develop and maintains relationships with carriers, freight forwarders, regulatory agencies.
  • Resolve conflicts that arise with carrier schedules, invoice pricing, etc.  Works with other areas to resolve escalated conflicts.  Assumes ultimate responsibility to ensure that carriers deliver quality product, on time, at the negotiated price.
  • Assists in developing company-wide strategies and solutions to continuously improve cost levels, stable sources of supply, high quality of commodities and other governing factors related to the Procurement Department.
  • Responsible for pre-negotiations and contracts with logistics vendors and their performance to contract.
  • Participate in continuous improvement activities including developing programs to improve vendor performance.  Track carrier’s performance and works with them to continuously improve quality, delivery, cost, productivity, and support.
  • Study market trends and systems technology related to job.  Research and recommend new product developments that continuously improves performance of the logistics program. 
  • Perform other duties as necessary in support of business objectives.
  • Prepare and hold business reviews with stakeholders to review vendor performance, future opportunities, and/or challenges.
  • Manage other indirect spend categories as needed and assigned.
  • May be required to travel up to 50% of the time.

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Complete understanding of Ocean freight, Domestic rail / truck, and air freight.
  • Knowledge of computer programs, including Microsoft Office, Visio, Esker, and others.
  • Advanced knowledge of ERP systems; SAP
  • Expert knowledge of manufacturing and supply chain processes, matrix or strategic pricing, and supplier markets.
  • Strong negotiator with proven experience in setting negotiation strategies and conducting negotiations.
  • Extensive knowledge of the basic types of commercial agreement structures and the function and purpose of key legal terms.
  • Strong experience assessing risk and concisely explaining complex issues to principal business owners.
  • Extremely customer-focused and takes the time to understand the needs of the business.
  • Experience working in a large, global, highly matrixed organization.
  • Strong analytical skills including the ability to quickly synthesize, distill and draw conclusions on large amounts of disparate data.
  • Ability to manage multiple simultaneous projects requiring frequent communication, organization, time management, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Extensive experience presenting at the executive level and developing business cases.
  • Passionate self-starter with the highest integrity and ethics.

 

Education, Certification/License & Work Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in business or related field; or equivalent experience. 
  • Knowledge of logistics pricing, billing, concepts, practices and procedures related to transportation of goods and services and demonstrated ability to contract these services.
  • A minimum five year applicable experience in logistics, or combination of transportation, manufacturing, procurement, and logistics.  Demonstrated ability to execute strategies as necessary to meet cost, quality, delivery, and reliability needs.  Must be able to meet unique and complex design requests and address issues related to quality improvement.
  • Demonstrated ability in written and verbal communications to effectively interface with internal and external contacts at all levels.

Compensation: 

  • Base: $89,000 - $116,000 annually (CO), based on specific compensable factors including, but not limited to education, work experience, and geographic market. 
  • Bonus: This role will be eligible for participation in a discretionary annual bonus program, pursuant to which an employee may be awarded a percentage of their salary based on the company’s performance and their own individual performance.
