JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY

The Head of R&D is the functional and disciplinary lead of product adaptation, development and verification of products and materials. R&D is part of TechHub USA and on a global scale belonging to Corporate Technology and meets with local and global peers and stakeholders on a regular basis. This position has frequent strategic and alignment of development projects, processes, methods and tools, and frequent communication with internal and external stakeholders as well as suppliers and partners. 

 

JOB DESCRIPTION DETAILS

Management

  • Provide leadership and direction to the Innovation, R&D team, ensuring the achievement of operational goals and financial targets.
  • Operational leadership of R&D competence and people development - by ensuring state of the art technologies, skills and methods.
  • Localization and implementation of development processes, standards and tools for development activities and workflows.
  • Strategic guidance with internal external development partners and test facilities.
  • Alignment with local peers in product management, production development and other x-functions like quality and procurement.
  • Responsible to execute on decided roadmap projects and life-cycling of legacy products.
  • Local responsibility for product development, verification and compliance for US product portfolio.
  • Accountable of effective and efficient product development and related quality throughout product lifecycle.
  • Planning of required resources and budgets in alignment with TechHub-lead and Corporate Technology.
  • Functional expenses for development team and CAPEX budgeting.
  • Influence of related development to sales revenue of $1B.
  • Ensures compliance in Health, Environment & Safety/Quality in all areas of operations; ensures company policies and guidelines, as set forth in the Corporate Human Resources Policy manual are followed.

Budget Strategies

  • Develops and administers budget for product portfolio, including reviewing previous year’s budget/expenses and forecasting short and long-range budgeting needs.
  • Authorizes expense reports; approves and manages expenditures; ensures expenditures are in alignment with approved budget.

Product vision and strategy

  • Be responsible for setting and owning strategic direction of the R&D portfolio.
  • Hold responsibility over the research and development of new products or advancements on existing products.

Cross-functional collaboration

  • Works closely with sales to effectively develop partnerships in order to understand market needs as well as meets customer needs.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure that product development and innovation aligns with business strategy.

Special Job Dimensions

  • Will be required to travel up to 30% of the time.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Senior leadership skills in technical/R&D environment.
  • Expertise in product development and life cycle engineering of technical products.
  • Ability to Cultivate the “CEO” mindset in the team.
  • Experience in product strategy development and road mapping tools.
  • Experience in a research and development group within a manufacturing company, preferably in areas of valves, fittings and or piping related technologies.
  • High-level modern technical and product knowledge.
  • Understanding of user experience and user research tools.
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills

Education, Certification/License & Work Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Marketing, Engineering or related discipline
  • 8-12 years of related work experience in research and development, market strategy and/or planning, and product management

Compensation: 

  • Base: $166,000 - $224,000 annually (CO), based on specific compensable factors including, but not limited to education, work experience, and geographic market. 
  • Bonus: This role will be eligible for participation in a discretionary annual bonus program, pursuant to which an employee may be awarded a percentage of their salary based on the company’s performance and their own individual performance.
