The Director, Plastics is responsible for managing personnel and all aspects of plastics manufacturing; developing and implementing policies and procedures; maintaining and implementing organizational and budget strategies; working with cross-functional teams to identify and implement best-practices; manages and directs production schedule; ensures proper resources are in place to meet goals and customer demand.
JOB DESCRIPTION DETAILS
Management
- Manage, select, train, motivate, review, coach, develop and retain a high-performance team.
- Conduct timely and accurate employee performance evaluations; address performance issues as needed.
- Develop, implement, and maintain policies, procedures and intra-departmental communications; maintain managerial relationships by encouraging and providing a timely, two-way flow of information between subordinates, management, and user groups.
- Participate in operational meetings as required or necessary.
- Motivate staff to improve quality of work performed and provides training and development opportunities as needed.
- Ensure compliance in Health, Environment & Safety/Quality in all areas of operations; ensure company policies and guidelines, as set forth in the Corporate Human Resources Policy manual are followed; maintain a safe and clean work environment.
- Develop and administer the departmental budget; approve and manage expenditures; forecast short and long-range budgeting needs; ensure expenditures are in alignment with approved budget.
- Develop organizational strategies, analysis, and recommendations for manufacturing departments; ensure objectives align with organizational objectives; continually evaluates existing processes to determine areas of improvement.
Production and Planning
- Direct and coordinate operations in implementing metrics, process improvements and organizational changes to drive continuous improvement; set standards that are measured, monitored and achieved/exceeded.
- Ensure manufacturing optimizes capacities, total cost effectiveness and value to the customer base; directs operations to achieve targeted cost and efficiency results that maximize value for the business unit.
- Manage and direct daily production schedules; optimize workforce flexibility and scheduling to meet customer demand and revenue projections; anticipate plant problems and takes corrective action to minimize the impact.
- Work with cross-functional teams to establish and implement operating methods and procedures designed to eliminate operating problems and improve quality; direct each manager on maintaining and implementing improvements for assigned areas.
- Develop operational strategies and plans to incorporate competitive issues, industry trends and external factors; integrate market, competitive trends and other issues into a series of initiatives; ensure proper resources are in place in order to meet customer demand.
- Drive collaboration with direct reporting staff and matrix reporting functions; discuss ideas and new technologies for better ways to produce products and establish a better, safe work environment; collaborate with supply chain leadership to ensure coordination and maximize supply chain efficiencies.
- Ensure structures are in place to monitor quality, quantity, cost and efficiency of the movement and storage of goods; promote continuous improvements through lean initiatives.

- Will be required to travel up to 10% of the time.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of computer programs including Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook, PowerPoint, SAP, MRP
- Understanding and working knowledge of all molding and extrusion equipment
- Strong knowledge of lean manufacturing methods
- Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing with all levels of the organization
- Ability to prioritize and multi-task
- Ability to read blueprints, drawings and schematics
- Ability to manage budget
- Ability to implement policy and procedures
- Ability to interpret data
- Ability to problem solve and troubleshoot
- Ability to lead and manage others in a team environment

Education, Certification/License & Work Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Manufacturing or related discipline
- 10 years of related work experience in manufacturing/operations leadership experience
OR
- Equivalent and comparable work experience in Manufacturing or related discipline

Total Rewards Package:
Compensation
- Base: $137,000 - $153,000 annually, based on specific compensable factors including, but not limited to education, work experience, and geographic market.
- Bonus: This role will be eligible for participation in a discretionary annual bonus program, pursuant to which an employee may be awarded a percentage of their salary based on the company’s performance and their own individual performance.
