JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY

Drive Excellence in EHS through management leadership, employee involvement, worksite analysis, hazard prevention and control, and EHS training:

 

JOB DESCRIPTION DETAILS

  • Supports project EHS plans, regulatory requirements, and other safe work practices.
  • Identifies, evaluates, develops, and delivers site specific EHS training to ensure exemplary compliance performance and reporting
  • Recognizes, evaluates, and advises on hazard identification.
  • Leads and conducts EHS inspections and monitors the quality and effectiveness of inspections and contractor safety plans.
  • Support development and evaluate efficiency of the site emergency response plan, site-specific security requirements and the environmental programs.
  • Monitors and audits contractor EHS performance.
  • Participates in on-site investigative processes and evaluating corrective actions taken for completeness and effectiveness.
  • Develops and maintains positive relationships with all stakeholders.
  • Coaches, trains and mentors EHS Specialists, Coordinators and Trainers as well as other employees.
  • Work collaboratively with all levels of the facility to establish and maintain a safety-focused culture.
  • Liaise with site supervisors and functional EHS team to support major initiatives while maintaining a 100% compliance rate with federal, state, and local EHS regulations for the facility.
  • Contribute to the establishment and implementation of EHS procedures, systems, and programs for current and future undertakings to eliminate or minimize risk, mitigate incidents and injuries, and promote health and safety at the facility.
  • Provide and document health and safety training to all site personnel, focusing on Electrical Safety and LOTO Training, among others.
  • Ensure that employees have access to effective mechanisms for addressing EHS concerns in a timely manner and follow up as necessary.
  • Support continuous improvement in compliance processes, employee training, and EHS performance, while keeping computerized EHS metrics and records and taking part in companywide EHS meetings.
  • Conduct periodic compliance/management system audits and self-assessments at the facility to ensure compliance with EHS and specific regulatory requirements concerning facility inspection permit parameters, among others.
  • Support the Integration of EHS processes and safe work practices into daily operations
  • Lead EHS initiatives as an integrated business partner to support achievement of site goals through the implementation of a robust EHS Management System
  • Provide oversight and leadership of EHS capital projects and supervise 3 - 4 direct reports.
  • Identify areas for improvement, define effective strategies and goals for change, and drive a performance-based culture
  • Interface directly with regulatory agencies and external stakeholders
  • Support development and implement a strong environmental management program to ensure compliance excellence and drive sustainable improvements across the site
  • Support a rigorous and proactive incident and injury management program which utilizes early intervention and strong case management to reduce risk and severity of injuries
  • Support a robust Management of Change program that effectively strategizes with key stakeholders to ensure all EHS requirements are identified and implemented to enable efficient completion of critical project milestones
  • Functional lead for Site EHS compliance, business continuity and contingency planning
  • Utilize six sigma and lean principles to drive effectiveness and improve efficiency
  • Will be required to travel up to 40% of the time. 

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Experience developing and implementing EHS Mgmt. Systems and achieve measurable goals
  • 5 - 7 years’ experience in a health and safety role in a related industry. Previous experience in a supervisory role an asset.
  • Solid understanding of applicable OH&S and environmental legislation and EHS processes.
  • Conflict resolution skills, with the ability to problem-solve.
  • Ability to develop, influence, and maintain effective stakeholder relationships and group facilitation
  • Strong working knowledge of construction processes and terminology.
  • Solid understanding of Microsoft Office Suite with a strong aptitude for adopting new technology.
  • Strong: oral and written communication, presentation, leadership, project management, organizational, analytical, and auditing skills.
  • Background in auditing to work instructions and standards, and with preventative maintenance activities.
  • Strong business acumen and bias for excellence
  • Ability to work effectively in a matrix organization
  • Leadership mindset that works well with all levels of the organization
  • Strong influencing skills to drive positive culture change
  • Willingness to travel as needed and the flexibility to support multiple shifts as necessary.

 

Education, Certification/License & Work Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science or a related field.
  • Holds safety certification from BCSP (ASP, CSP OHST, or SMS)
  • 5 or more years of progressive EHS program experience at an industrial or manufacturing site.
  • Broad knowledge and experience of OSHA & EPA requirements
