JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY

As Off-Shift Manager, you will have the opportunity to lead dedicated teams, influence operations, and contribute to a company that sets the highest industry standards.  The Off-Shift Manager oversees sitewide operations in McPherson Kansas for the off shifts (2nd, 3rd, Weekend).  This position is dedicated to ensuring lead and support supervisors across multiple departments maintain consistent operational excellence to include efficiency, safety, and adherence to quality standards.  This leadership role is integral in Viega’s commitment to excellence and customer satisfaction, creating a culture of accountability and growth. 

 

JOB DESCRIPTION DETAILS

  • Drive continuous improvement, fostering innovation and problem-solving to enhance productivity. 
  • Act as the primary decision-maker during off-shift hours, proactively managing challenges. 
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure fluid communication between shifts. 
  • Provides strategic guidance to multiple supervisors, upholding our company’s reputation of connected in quality.
  • Encourage and maintain a Safety Culture within the company through leading by example and ensuring all teams have the tools and knowledge necessary to work safely.
  • Foster safety improvement and/or get employees to take a more proactive role in their own safety.
  • Ensure responses to safety incidents are handled by supervision according to protocol.
  • Continually and proactively demonstrate strong leadership through training, motivating and developing other team members.
  • Administers progressive disciplinary procedures as required.
  • Recognize and solve problems affecting production, quality, safety and productivity.
  • Help implement and maintain preventative maintenance programs. Make recommendations for facilities and equipment when necessary.
  • Incorporate shop floor organization and plant cleanliness.
  • Provide direction, development and leadership to production employees through performance management tools.
  • Provide effective communication to support the needs of the employees as well as the goals of the organization.
  • Actively engage in all Safety initiatives to meet or exceed EH&S goals and plans.
  • Facilitate implementation of new processes, materials, and cost-reduction initiatives.
  • Provide clear communication and conflict resolution across shifts while reinforcing a positive, change-ready culture.
  • Coach and develop Value Stream Managers and support teams for optimal performance.

 

Safety

  • Slips, Trips and Falls
  • When walking, be aware of unlevel or elevated surfaces
  • Keep aisles clear
  • Use caution when walking on wet surfaces and wipe up spills
  • Use the handrail on stairs
  • Use only approved step stools and ladders.  Do not stand on chairs
  • Walk, don’t run
  • Report deficient conditions to the appropriate maintenance department
  • Use caution when walking in parking lots and parking garage

Good Housekeeping

  • Always maintain a clean and uncluttered work environment
  • Do no overload wastebaskets

 

Safe Lifting

  • Use caution and proper techniques when lifting heavy objects
  • Ask for help

Equipment

  • Only use equipment that is in good repair
  • Report any equipment hazards immediately to your manager

 

Job duties as they relate to Hazardous waste.

  • Place hazardous waste in satellite accumulation containers.
  • Move hazardous waste containers to the appropriate accumulation area.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • High school graduate. 
  • Bachelor’s degree in Operations Management, Business, Quality Management, Lean Specialist, or a related field preferred.
  • 5+ years of operations management experience in a manufacturing setting.
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, including conflict resolution and team development.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing tools and philosophies.
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required.
  • Knowledge of computer software such as SAP, Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Knowledge of basic English, including reading, writing and arithmetic.
  • Ability to adhere to the highest standards of quality while continually performing at the highest possible level.

 

Education, Certification/License & Work Experience

  • High school graduate. 
  • Bachelor’s degree in Operations Management, Business, Quality Management, Lean Specialist, or a related field preferred.
  • 5+ years of operations management experience in a manufacturing setting.
