JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY

The Transportation & Distribution Planner is responsible for developing and optimizing delivery routes to ensure efficient transportation operations. This role requires analytical skills, understanding of transportation laws and regulations, attention to detail, and effective communication to support timely and cost-effective deliveries.

This position requires the candidate to reside within the Denver Metropolitan Area or the Wichita Metropolitan Area. Candidates must be able to attend a hybrid work schedule of two days in office per week.

JOB DESCRIPTION DETAILS

• Route Design and Optimization
• Plan and adjust delivery routes to ensure efficiency, timeliness, and fuel conservation.
• Analyze traffic patterns, delivery schedules, and service constraints to determine optimal routing strategies.
• Utilize route optimization software and tools to create precise routes that meet customer requirements.
• Ensure optimal sub-mode is selected for each shipment: Parcel, LTL, FTL
• Coordination and Scheduling
• Collaborate with dispatchers, drivers, and warehouse teams to align on delivery schedules and priorities.
• Select optimal carriers and tender shipments to carriers.
• Monitor delivery progress, address real-time issues, and adjust routes as needed for delays, traffic, or special instructions.
• Ensure accurate departure and arrival times, coordinating adjustments to reduce delays and ensure customer satisfaction.
• Data Analysis and Reporting
• Collect and analyze data on routes, delivery times, and other KPIs to identify patterns and recommend improvements.
• Maintain and report on delivery records, incidents, and route effectiveness for process improvement.
• Other Job Duties as Required
• Update customers on delivery schedules, anticipated delays, and special arrangements.
• Address and resolve customer inquiries related to route planning and delivery.
• Ensure that all routing and delivery processes adhere to company policies and local transportation regulations.
• Train team members in route planning software, as needed, to support smooth operations.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Excellent customer service skills
• Basic knowledge of computer programs such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
• Ability to correspond with carriers and follow through with Viega expectations
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to pay close attention to detail
• Ability to be a self-starter and to multi-task
• Ability to read and interpret documents
• Ability to write routine reports and correspondence

Education, Certification/License & Work Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent; an associate or bachelor’s degree in logistics, supply chain, or a related field is preferred.
• 3-5 years experience in route planning, logistics, transportation or supply chain.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
• Proficiency with route optimization software and tools preferred.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
• Ability to work under pressure in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
• Primarily an office-based position but may require travel to distribution centers.
• May involve early or late shifts depending on delivery schedules.
