JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY

This position is responsible for all aspects of the Cost Accounting function for the company.   This includes working with General Accounting to post monthly cost and inventory entries, reconciliation of sub-ledger to general ledger postings; absorption accounting; accuracy of costing including annual rate roll process; responding to  cost and profitability analysis requests; providing cost analysis focused on absorption, material and labor variances; driving continuous improvements through variance and trend report analysis and metrics management; assisting with year-end-budget processes; analyzing accuracy of costs by reviewing material cost calculations and verifying accuracy in SAP; facilitating and correcting master data errors, communicating with Germany to ensure guidelines and procedures are followed assisting with annual physical inventory count.  BS recon. WIP adjustments, slow moving inventory analysis and Viadot recon.

 

Candidate would be located in the Northeast and could go into the plant (when built - approx 2025) probably 2 days a week.  Until the plant is built, they would be remote and traveling to KS/CO for training and support, potentially 1 week a month. 

 

When the plant is built in the Northeast, candidate would travel their 1 week a month or potentially relocate. We are wanting a Cost Accountant presence in the Northeast plant when it is built in 2025. 

 

 

JOB DESCRIPTION DETAILS

Accounting

  • Works collaboratively with General Accounting to post all monthly cost and inventory entries.  Maintains balance sheet reconciliations as needed.
  • Assists in the successful planning and execution of year- end physical inventory for both manufacturing and logistics center locations.  Reviews and approves all weekly cycle count inventory adjustments.
  • Reconciles inventory per the balance sheet to various sub-ledger systems and books reconciling adjustments.
  • Analyzes excessive and obsolete inventory SKU’s and propose reserve adjustments as required.
  • Analyzes absorption accounting results for accuracy.
  • Responsible for the adherence and updating of all controls within the inventory and manufacturing environment.
  • Supports both internal and external annual audit procedures as needed.

 

Reporting and Analysis

  • Provides cost analysis and estimating support to independent studies, analysis of alternatives, economic analysis, and program budget development.
  • Participates on several special project teams representing finance (new mfg. facilities, large capital outlays).
  • Performs ad hoc product/plant cost analysis for management as requested.

 

  • Drives continuous improvement through trend reporting analysis and metrics management.
  • Assists with year-end budget process; collects and analyzes standard cost calculations of actual labor, material, and overhead costs against actual budget; researches and explains variances.
  • Analyzes and reviews cost estimates including technical data, cost estimating methods, ground rules, and assumptions submitted by departments or contractors for completeness, consistency, and thoroughness.

 

Costing and Inventory Valuation

  • Analyzes actual manufacturing costs and prepares periodic reports comparing budget costs to actual production costs; including product margin reporting and analytics.
  • Analyzes and develops dashboards for inventory/manufacturing variances including absorption, labor, and material variances.
  • Work closely with manufacturing to determine cause of inventory/manufacturing variances to standard and assist in development of corrective actions.
  • Summarizes unit cost information for all product lines, utilizing common Viega reports; update standard and moving average prices as required.

 

Master Data Maintenance

  • Interacts with Production to ensure Bills of Material (BOM) are accurate and up to date; review and audit BOM to ensure they reflect the latest manufacturing practices.
  • Analyzes accuracy of costs by reviewing material cost calculations and verifying accuracy of set up in SAP.
  • Facilitates the correction of master data errors as it relates to inventory parts.
  • Provides cost reporting for the organization, including insights and analysis of key cost drivers.
  • Leads efforts related to technology infrastructure of costing and inventory management including impacts of other functions on inventory valuation and management, non-integrated systems, and possible improvements to existing systems, including maintenance of cost accounting technology, evaluation of alternative processes, expansion of current applications and training.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of computer programs including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Access, SAP and SAP BW
  • Knowledge of direct and indirect cost structures
  • Working knowledge of forecasting (budget, forward pricing, economic feasibility, profitability analysis)
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and work well with all levels of the organization
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent analytical skills and ability to perform various analyses (economic feasibility, profitability, etc.)

Education, Certification/License & Work Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in accounting, Finance, or related discipline.  MBA or CPA preferred
  • AND
  • 1 year of Cost Accountant work experience.

 

Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.

 

Salary range: $72,000 - $81,000 (CO) approx annually based upon experience
